Everybody has one or two beauty tricks—time savers, problem solvers or any other unconventional beauty ideas. We call them beauty hacks. Beauty hacks have been passed down from generation to generation, and sometimes they’re invented on the spot out of sheer necessity.
I love to try out all of the beauty tips and tricks that I come across. Admittedly, some work great and others are major clunkers. But we won’t know what works for us until we try them out. There’s nothing worse then having a beauty emergency without a solution. I’ve stapled the hem on my pants, used liquid white out to save a chipped French manicure, and rubbed dryer sheets through my hair and on my legs to get rid of static cling. It’s amazing what we will do in the name of beauty. We all have our favorite beauty hacks. There are some beauty hacks we’ve all heard before, and have definitely tried in a pinch. There are some we may have not heard of but are definitely willing to try if and when necessary.
There’s a first time for everything, so let’s share. Today, I’m going to reveal some of my personal favorite beauty hacks. Some are old school and should continue to be handed down to the younger generations. Then I have some I have just recently tried with success. So here it goes, a few of my favorite beauty hacks…
Try this beauty hack if you want lips that really look pouty and perfect. Our lips lack that protective outer layer of skin called the stratum corneum, which makes them very susceptible to dehydration and flaking. For the most kissable lips, and to make sure your lipsticks and glosses go on smoothly and look amazing, you need to exfoliate your lips.
I have two techniques that really work for me. The first is the old school toothbrush trick. Gently and in a circular motion, take a wet toothbrush and massage against your lips. No need to scrub too hard, just a gentle brushing to rid your lips of any rough skin will do the trick. Apply a moisturizing lip balm and you are good to go. Not a fan of the toothbrush trick? Try making an exfoliating lip scrub using honey and granulated sugar. You can use olive or coconut oil too, but honey tastes better. Mix up a small amount and gently massage into your lips to exfoliate. Rinse away and moisturize with lip balm. This beauty hack will leave you with soft, smooth kissable lips every time.
Have you ever purchased a new eye shadow, blush, bronzer or face powder and accidentally dropped it? You cringe at the thought of looking at it, because it probably cracked into bits and pieces. It’s a big disappointing mess. If you’re like me, it’s best to just toss it then deal with the frustration. A makeup artist friend of mine told me about this beauty hack, and you know what? It really works! Just add a small amount of rubbing alcohol into your powder and mix to create a paste. Flatten the paste with a spoon in it’s compact and allow to dry overnight. Voila! Just like new.
I love to experiment with bronzers and highlighters, but on most occasions I have a serious lack of time when it comes to applying my makeup. If you long for the perfect shading and highlighting, try the ‘Magic 3’ trick. It‘ll help you define your cheekbones and highlight your most fabulous features.
After you’ve applied your foundation, load up your bronzer makeup brush with product. Start on one side of your forehead, right above your temple, and trace a backwards number 3 down that side of your face. The middle of the 3 should curve in at the cheekbone to about halfway between your temple and nose. Bring the bottom of the reverse 3 back out to the jawbone and trace down to just below the corner of your mouth. Then just simply repeat the reverse 3 on the other side of your face. The ‘Magic 3’ technique works because is mimics the areas of your face that would naturally be exposed to the sun. You can add a splash of highlighter to your cheekbones and you’ll be done. This perfect beauty hack works for me every time.
This is an oldie but goodie. If your skin is missing that youthful glow and looks more dull and drab than dewy, try this simple beauty hack. Just add a pump of your favorite moisturizer to your liquid foundation and apply the way you normally would. The added moisturizer will give your skin that natural dewy look that that all the runway models sport.
