We all set a few new goals as we go into a new year, but does your goal list include any beauty resolutions? I’m sharing my New Year’s beauty resolution list with you to help you get started on the right beauty path for 2015!
I’ll be the first one to admit that New Year’s resolutions can be a pain. My intentions are always good, but I’ve struggled to follow through with all of my resolutions. Some resolutions have become a bit cliché over the years, and seem to be everyone’s goals when asked. We’ve heard it all before: go to the gym, lose a few pounds (or kgs), cut back on drinks and sweet treats, be more organized and so on. But what about beauty resolutions? New Year’s beauty resolutions are ones I actually keep, and help me feel confident throughout the year! We should all have at least one or two beauty resolutions to help us build confidence as we enter into 2015. The key to a good New Year’s beauty resolution is for it to be achievable. Can it be done? Will we feel better as a result? Yes and yes!
As the year comes to a close, a lot of people are filled with plenty of ‘would’ve, should’ve, could’ves.’ But why worry about the past when the future looks so bright? Now is the time to do something new and set some fun, simple and achievable New Year’s beauty resolutions. A few simple changes can help you to look and feel your very best. Here’s my list of top New Year’s beauty resolutions for 2015 to help you get started with your beauty goals!
When was the last time you went through all of the beauty products you own? If you’re anything like me, you’ve collected quite a stash of items you barely even use! Now’s the best time to go through all beauty products… and start tossing them into the trash. I know I’m not the only one out there who has a drawer in the bathroom, full of products. From makeup to skin care to nail polish, this drawer is the place where all products eventually go to die. Let’s start off the New Year with a fresh perspective: if you haven’t looked at it, worn it or opened in the last few months–toss it. You obviously didn’t love it; otherwise it wouldn’t be lying around in a drawer. If a beauty product isn’t part of your daily beauty regimen by now, then it probably never will be. Remember most beauty products have expiration dates. There’s no need to hang onto something you don’t use, especially if it’s about to expire.
While you’re at it, don’t forget other areas you store your unused beauty products. Clean out your shower and get rid of bottles of shampoo and body wash that have been sitting there, untouched. Don’t forget about your gym bag and your handbags. It’s amazing what you’ll find lurking at the bottom of your bags. Ahh, yes, I remember that fabulous orange sparkly lipstick I just had to have! Toss it! There’s my fabulous navy blue nail polish. Why is it all separated and grey? Toss it! I remember this travel size can of dry shampoo. It now has a funky smell. Toss it! If you don’t use… LOSE IT!
It’s a new year, so why not a new you? Let’s make a New Year’s beauty resolution to kick things up a notch. Are you still using the same skin care products you were using 10 years ago? If so, reevaluate your current skin concerns and make sure you’re using the best products. If you have yet to introduce a serum into your daily skin care regimen, now’s the time. The same thing goes for your cosmetics. All makeup is not created equal. You may resolve to update your look a bit and look for products that contain a bit of SPF or a little less shimmer. Did you chemically straighten your hair or add hair extensions for the holidays? You may want to upgrade your hair products to sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, and look for products to nourish and strengthen those tresses. Invest in yourself for some fabulous new results in 2015.
This is one’s my favorite New Year’s beauty resolution! I’m sure you have a ton of photos of yourself at various parties, sporting events, luncheons, kids soccer games, and the list goes on. If you don’t believe me, go to your Facebook or Instagram page and take a look. We all have photos that we think we look amazing in, and other photos that we aren’t so thrilled about. (And yes, some have been deleted!). Seek out the photos where your hair looks great, your makeup is stunning or your outfit looks fantastic. And, here’s the easy part – just do it again. It’s said that a picture speaks a thousand words, and photos don’t lie!
This New Year’s beauty resolution can be a bit difficult. Don’t pick or pop anything! This means you must not pop that pimple that seemingly came out of nowhere. You can no longer pick at your cuticles until they bleed and hurt for the next few days. If you’re obsessed with clumpy mascara, then I must say: hands off! Reach for some makeup remover immediately to resist the urge to pick, pick, pick. Just leave things alone.
This beauty resolution is another favorite of mine and can be quite liberating. Instead of getting stuck in that same old beauty rut, be daring! Be bold! Every once in a while try something new that you find intriguing even if its not necessarily ‘you.’ Try rocking some plum colored lips, some new nail art or even a new hair color. You won’t know how you look if you don’t try. Just go for it. If you need to take baby steps, you can rock your new look just at home. Just make sure you actually do it! You might just be pleasantly surprised.
These are my new beauty resolutions for 2015, that I hope you’ll join me on. Here are a few resolutions from years past that have turned into rules I live by:
I know 2015 is going to be an incredible year. Beauty resolutions shouldn’t just begin and end just once a year. They should be ongoing and explored further throughout the year. It’s all about confidence and owning your look.
